The Minors Protection Registry is designed to:

  • Alert digital providers of the age associated with a minor’s device and/or online identifiers such as phone and email.

  • Dramatically strengthen intelligence around minors’ digital identities.

  • Increase compliance.

  • Reduce fraudulent claims and greater access to age-appropriate services.

  • Make digital life safer for the world’s youth and their parents.

How does it work?

  • Like the National Do Not Call Registry, parents enroll their children’s device identifiers (e.g., phone, email, browser, etc.) tied to their child’s real age and authorize protection.
  • Based on legal requirements and their terms of service, verified company subscribers will configure and activate appropriate age based configurations.
  • Subscribing companies may query the registry API in real time or through batch uploads to process age-aware. access or blocking.
  • If an online identifier is enrolled in the registry, the API will return a response based on the company's configured requirements.
  • Consistent with the age-based response, the company subscriber will grant access to age-appropriate content/experience or block the protected user.
  • Once a parent has completed the adult verification process and provided appropriate attestation of his/her role as the custodial parent/guardian of one or more associated minor children and their protected data and devices, that verification transaction will not have to be repeated.

Did you know there are more than 20 states that require online age verification and other new regulations set out to protect minors online?

Minors' digital privacy protection is now mandated by regulations in every corner of the world. Globally, digital privacy laws protecting minors are complex and rapidly expanding. And in many countries and regions, there is unprecedented, united political will and escalating consumer demands in support of more aggressive enforcement and more serious penalties and accountability for corporate violations.

On the Internet, it's hard to know who’s a kid.

This reality creates serious risk for your company, your executives, and your advertisers.

Need another reason?

Kids face increasing peer pressure to be a part of the next big thing, driving tweens to lie about their age to gain digital access to age-restricted digital services.

A single white lie from a child regarding their age unleashes a breathtaking velocity of access to age-restricted digital content and activities.

The resulting lack of age transparency is the foundation for what amounts to a worldwide network of virtual fake IDs held by kids in every corner of the world - and enabled at the front door of nearly every age-restricted digital offering that attracts children.

The MPR should be your front row of defense to make sure you are doing all you can to keep minors out or let them in compliantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

PRIVO’s patented Minors Protection Registry(MPR) and Signaling Service helps companies demonstrate commitment to child safety by ensuring an age-appropriate internet experience based on the user’s true age. We call this making the internet age aware™.

The MPR empowers parents to protect their children online and alerts companies immediately when a minor attempts access at their digital front door. The MPR equips companies to make informed, cost-effective decisions on user access, ads, experiences and offerings without added friction.

In less than five minutes, any parent across the globe will be able to enroll their children and authorize PRIVO as their agent to ensure they are not granted access to subscribing age-restricted products and services for which the child is below the minimum age. Parents may add their children and minors-associated devices through PRIVO directly and via employers and partners who support sharing the message to accelerate adoption.

More than 50% of kids and teens admit to lying about their age online creating risk for the company and child. PRIVO created an easy solution to better help companies ensure compliance with child privacy regulations [and thereby avoid regulatory fines] by keeping children who don’t meet the age requirement for an online service out or allowing them in compliantly.

The MPR is free to parents to enroll their children for protection. Subscribing companies will pay a monthly/annual fee. Contact us for more information.

No. The Minors Protection Registry only covers those online services and messages related to products and services that prohibit children or minors from purchasing, viewing, possessing, participating in or receiving under State and Federal law. If the company is not a subscriber to the registry, they may be served a notice they have data related to a minor in their database and will be required to remove that child’s data.

Information in the Registry is securely hashed, which means the data will be transformed into a string of unreadable text using a one-way mathematical function called hashing. PRIVO maintains a comprehensive set of compliance certifications, standards, and attestations to validate our #1 value of Trust. Visit our security page to learn more.
