The State of Play: What’s in store for children’s digital privacy and safety in 2025
The past year saw unprecedented numbers of proposed and passed online privacy and safety regulation globally. Most of this was driven out of the EU and at US state level but there is also legislation at US federal level including the latest amendments recently announced to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Much of the US state legislation has faced fierce opposition resulting in challenges in the court around free speech and issues related to age verification. Across the ocean Australia’s bill to ban children from social media sparked controversy at the end of the 2024.
As we begin a new year, where do we currently stand? What does the fast-paced changing privacy and safety landscape mean for companies and privacy professionals navigating the latest regulatory requirements and meeting best practice while providing children with valuable experiences?
This webinar brought together leading privacy professionals to discuss the current state of play for online services engaging with young children and teens or likely to attract them.
