He began this work as president of the American Center for Children and Media. In addition to leading the legal function within the Data Protection Commission (DPC), Anna also has responsibility for the area of Children’s Policy. She developed and led the DPC’s innovative public consultation on the processing of children’s data and the exercise of children’s rights as data subjects in the digital sphere which directly consulted with children, as well as adult stakeholders. This work has now culminated in the recent publication of detailed draft guidance by the DPC titled “Children Front and Centre: Fundamentals for a Child Oriented Approach to Data Processing” which is open for public consultation until 31 March 2021. Anna is also a doctoral candidate at the Law School in Trinity College, Dublin with her Ph.D. thesis focusing on operationalizing children’s data subject rights under the GDPR.

Jim Trilling leads policy initiatives, investigations, and litigation. He played a leading role in the FTC’s recent workshop on the future of the COPPA Rule. He has played leading roles in numerous FTC privacy and data security matters, including the FTC’s cases against Uber Technologies, Inc., Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, LLC, and CyberSpy Software, LLC. He served a two-year detail as counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, where he conducted investigations and worked on legislative proposals regarding privacy, data security, and a variety of other issues. Before joining the FTC, he litigated cases in private practice and clerked for Judge David F. Hamilton. He is a graduate of Indiana University and Harvard Law School.

Amelia Vance is Director of the Youth and Education Privacy at the Future of Privacy Forum. Amelia advises policymakers, academics, companies, districts, and states on child and student privacy law and best practices; oversees the Education Privacy Resource Center website and the review of applicants to the Student Privacy Pledge; and convenes stakeholders to ensure the responsible use of student data and education technology in schools. She is a regular speaker at education and privacy conferences in the U.S. and abroad, has testified before the House Education and Workforce Committee, spoken on child and education privacy issues for two Federal Trade Commission workshops, serves on the New York and Maryland state student privacy councils, and is part of the group of experts reviewing the OECD revised recommendations on the protection of children online. Prior to FPF, Amelia was the Director of the Education Data & Technology Project at the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE). Amelia is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Following a period of time spent with Guardian Media Group, he went on to work in insight on many global and kids’ brands for BBC Worldwide.
